Why can't I see my local e-mail traffic in PerfectMail?
Posted by David Rutherford on 25 September 2013 04:02 PM

I'm investigating e-mail issues between users on my local mail server. I can't find this e-mail traffic on my PerfectMail server? How do I know whether PerfectMail filtered these messages?

PerfectMail monitors and filters e-mail sent between your mail server and the Internet. E-mail that is sent between users local to your mail server will not get sent to the Internet, so there will be no incoming/outgoing e-mail traffic for PerfectMail to see.

This means:
1) PerfectMail will not be able to filter these messages, and
2) there will be no record of these messages in the PerfectMail interface.

If your users are not receiving e-mail that is sent locally, these messages may be getting filtered by your mail server (e.g. Exchange) or they may be placed in the local mail client (e.g. Outlook) Junk folder. Outlook may be performing additional spam filtering, that PerfectMail cannot control.
