Whois is a protocol used to display information about networks, domains and Internet hosts in a human readable format. The whois record normally includes data on the organizations and contacts associated with these resources. It may also include information such as when the domain was created, when it expires, and when the last time the domain record was updated.

The WhoIs Tool is used to submit queries for, and display, this information. For example, you can find information on a domain (e.g.: microsoft.com) by querying the appropriate whois server.

Whois information is commonly scanned by spammers and marketing organizations looking for potential contact information. As such, whois servers may restrict access to these records and may put safeguards in place to prevent high volume, automated queries of the databases. Also, some domains may take steps to prevent the display of any of the domain holders identifying or contact information.

The PerfectMail™ WhoIs Tool allows administrators to research Internet Domains. On the "Tools => WhoIs" menu item enter the Domain name you want to research and click the "Who is" button.
